Hope everyone is having a great week!
So I think I've mentioned on the blog before that I enjoy decorating cakes with fondant. It is a hobby that started in 8th grade and one I have tried to keep up with. For an event we hosted last weekend, I decided to try out a new technique, marbling fondant. While quite simple, I was really worried I would somehow mess it up and end up with a cake that was covered in big blotchy patches of different colored fondant or a new scary color altogether. Thankfully, neither situation occurred and the cake turned out pretty well! (Well, I guess I'll have to let you guys be the judge of that) One thing I wish I had done was incorporate the white fondant more evenly into the marbling, because I think that would have resulted in a better pattern. That's something to remember for next time! Hope everyone is having a great week!

The temperature is on the rise here and that means I can justify more cool sweet treats! Growing up M&M cookie ice cream sandwiches were my favorite and definitely still one I reach for. But now, the varieties available are so unique and glam up ice cream sandwiches in a way I couldn't have imagined as a child. Above are a few I either need to make or try sometime this summer. The churro one (#3) sounds good and it's always so cool to see the different ways people incorporate them into their desserts. The duche leche inspired one (#4) is a great reminder of how we can take a relatively casual dessert like an ice cream sandwich and turn it into a glam dessert by incorporating flavors and elements from more traditional and classic desserts. And if you like fun and more kid-oriented desserts, there are so many popular cookie and cereal based ice cream sandwiches (even one with rice krispies!). You could have them as part of a ice cream sandwich bar at a kid's birthday or other party.(That's an idea to keep in mind!) What was your favorite childhood ice cream treat? On a separate note, I am so so sorry for the lack of posts these past couple of months! This past term in school was especially hectic, with many unexpected situations that really limited my creative time. I hope to get back into the swing of things over the summer and make plans to have more posts on a regular basis during the academic year.
Hope you all are enjoying the days leading up to summer. Stay cool! |
